We are aware that steel fabricators are having difficulties with the design of elements and connections to the Eurocodes. Some fabricators continue to use their BS5950 based software or the green book to design their connections when the frame has been designed to EC3, reasoning that the Eurocode is based on the same principals. We have found that this approach is not always accepted by the Engineer.

We have invested in software and have written spreadsheets ourselves so that we can offer our services for the design of connections or whole frames to EC3.

Steel Connection Design

s85-04  s85-01

Recent projects include steel connection design to BS EN 1993-1-8:2005 for two new schools in England, including an interesting combination of steelwork and precast concrete frames.

We have also carried out design checks on existing highway structures in France and England to take additional loading, as well as the design of an industrial steel framed tower (far left).

The unique way that the Eurocodes have been compiled with multi-national cooperation now means design of a structure abroad can easily be carried out, simply by applying the parameters from that country's national annex.
