  • He and his team work on a wide range of conservation related projects.
  • Initially worked on site as a civil engineer
  • Works on old mines and other ground-related and offshore projects.
  • Trained on bridges as well as buildings.
  • Forensic engineer
  • Keen to be a low-carbon engineer, with unusual knowlege of British hardwoods.
  • A chartered environmental engineer
  • Involved with several ICE panels and past regional chair.

Joe Foley
As a director of this company Joe has been involved with both large and small projects, particularly for Local Authorities and for Steel Fabricators. These have included multimillion-pound works to schools and steel designs for major buildings such as power stations, factories, warehouses, car dealerships and steel manufacturing facilities. Some of these designs were for the overseas market. 

He has been elected

  • A Fellow of both the Institutions of the Civil and the Structural Engineers.
  • Chairman of the Northern Counties Branch for years 2004 to 2006

Alice Bowers


Conservation Accredited Engineer (CARE)

Associate Director, Structural & Civil Consultants

Alice carries out technical input, manages contracts and takes the role of Principal Designer. She has gained Conservation Accredited Engineer (CARE) status after working for almost 10 years on historic buildings. As a Project Engineer and Associate, she has taken the lead on projects such as stabilisation of Appleby Castle Keep, mine shafts, Rosedale kilns and conservation of bridges in the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dale. She also has a broad range of civil eningineering and structural design skills and can act as project managemer or Principal Desiginer.

Iain Thew MEng 
(Hons) ProfGradIMMM
Hon secretary of Wood Technology Board

Iain is a structural engineer with 8 years’ experience and enjoys the conservation and redevelopment of listed and historic structures. Work over the past six years has been in a variety of fields, including structural, civil and building projects and condition surveys. He is experienced in all major materials, with a particular expertise in drystone masonry structures and timber.

Jack Cornforth 

Jack is studying HNC part time at Teeside University and works as an autoCAD technician and surveyor.  Jack tends to lead on the monitoring of buildings using Movement Gauges to 0.1mm.

Paul Foley  

BEng (Hons)
Paul has been designing steel frames and connections for various building structures.


 Ajimol Sinu

MTech BTech

         Aji graduated in civil engineering and structural analysis from universities in southern India, and trained on site before moving to the UK. 

Aji has been designing connections for a number of projects and has recently taken a lead role in the Farringdon Station development. She also has experience in offshore renewables and offshore oil and gas in the UK and Middle East.


Terry Walker

Terry Walker will be one of the most experienced steel experts in the country. He has wide experience in the design and construction of steel framed buildings.



Andrew Redfearn  

Andrew specialises in the design of steel elements, connections and temporary works, working mostly for steel fabricators while at S&CCLtd.  Projects have included largescale commercial and educational developments.


 John Gullon

John tends to lead on designs for smaller strucutural projects and forensic investigitions.
John does not work Mondays or Fridays.

John Welch

John acts as a consultant on practial issues related to bridges and steelwork.  With S&CC John worked on major bridge schemes such as the Corrinth
